An Ode To Anna Atkins Candle

$25.00

Presenting An Ode to Anna Atkins, a candle we’ve been working on to celebrate one of the pioneers of our industry. Anna Atkins (1799-1871) was a botanist and photographer holding the distinction of being the first person to publish a book illustrated with photographic images in Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions. She was one of the pioneers in the use of cyanotypes (a camera-less, monochromatic, blue-toned printing process) to create scientific and artistic images of algae, flowers, and other flora.

The candles have notes of cardamom, lavender, and fir to reflect sunshine dappling the forest floor. The labels feature a cyanotype created by Anna Atkins of a Lady Slipper Orchid. These candles were handmade by Brian Muldoon, a candle artisan in Brooklyn, New York. The label was designed by DN-A Studio.
